Hey all!. If you have not noticed yet, plaid came back again the fall/ winter of this year. I have even talked about it in a twist to plaid trend last month. Besides, the trend this year has a different take on last year trend. This year is all about bold plaid colors such as bright red, orange and blue. It even has new take such as mixing two prints or trends. Thus, I thought it is time to show my red plaid shirt dress and talk about is plaid dress still in style!.

 

Red Plaid shirt dress

I have fallen in love with plaid a few seasons back and got carried away with this trend. Each year, I add few statement pieces here and there from this trend. Whether it is accessories or clothing pieces, I think I have it all. However, there was one piece missing from my closet which is a plaid dress. I always thought they look cute on everyone but never found the one dress I love and need. Last year, I was browsing in one of the favorite shops; Eddie Bauer. I found a red plaid shirt dress I love. YAY! finally!. You guessed it. I brought it home. The only thing I noticed with Eddie Bauer brand for women that you need to size up one size.

Other than that the materials and the design of all of their clothes are on point. Plus, they have everything you need to stay warm in fall and winter. In addition, they not only carry athletic clothes but they also have garments you could wear to work or to a casual day with friends. I mentioned them before in how to get motivated to work out. 

The shirt dress

The red plaid shirt dress has buttons up at the front along with front pockets and belts to shape the dress. I love that whoever designed this dress did not forget the cuff off design which transits beautifully from fall to winter and adds a trendy touch to it. Indeed, this dress is made of premium cotton flannel that’s brushed on both sides. That’s why maybe you need to size up if you decide to order it in here. I found the dress to be so soft yet gives a comfortable warm feeling. That’s why I skipped on tights.

Accessory

I decided for this fall shirt dress to go with the curly hair. I wanted volume, yet fall look. Plus, the weather was messy and wet. Thus, I knew curly hair is my only option. Moreover, I have touched before in how to achieve this flawless curls in Messy curly hair using a diffuser.

Makeup

I kept my makeup simple but edgy with a bold lip color from my favorite Votre Vu set the stage lipsticks. The colors I used are Margaux and Brandy. I used a burgundy lip pencil to define my lips. In addition, I used one eyeshadow from ColourPop called sailer from their super shock eyeshadows collection. This was my first time I use Colourpop and I really love the wet look it gives to my eyes. Everything else was not new to my makeup routine from foundation to blush.

Shoes

I was expecting to step in mud for a rainy day like the one we had over the weekend. Thus, my black sneakers were not an option for me. I thought I would take it a nudge and pair it with riding boots. First, I don’t see people pairing their riding boots with plaid dresses often. Second, I want to have a different take in how you can style your red plaid shirt dress with riding boots and look trendy at the same time. The riding boots are from Etienne Aigner. Sadly, they are nowhere to be found. However, I spotted a lovely collection of riding boots at DSW in here that could match any plaid dress you like. To dress in an adorable and approachable way, I decided to add leg warmer. I got from Amazon.

Jewelry

To add a feminine fall touch to the outfit, I added a vintage ring and a necklace with a ruby stone. For earring, I put on my heart earrings I got from Swarovski for extra cute touch. I wore the later with another outfit featured in red pants fall trend post.

Is plaid dress still in style this fall/ winter?

In my opinion, Plaid dress will stay in style this year and for years to come after. However, It is the way you style it that will make it an updated look. Think accessories such as riding boots, booties, sneakers, or infinity scarfs. Also, add jeans or leather jacket to give it that updated cool, elegant and refined look. In other words, instead of thinking of the dress from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. think of elevating it to fit your nowadays look by adding the right accessories.

Moreover,  clothing stores designed plaid dresses to look trendy and stylish. Most of the plaid dresses I see are shirt dresses. Shirt dress came to us recently to give us the look of a shirt in a dress. Therefore, this dress style is chic and trendy. You can even wear it to work. Do not be afraid to get creative with working around the plaid dress to give it your own touch.
